International Italian-Latin American Organization announces the XVI edition of the IILA-Literature Award, which reactivates the Literary Award, in force from 1969 to 1996, with the aim of contributing to the diffusion and valorization of contemporary Latin American literary production translated and published in Italian, promote new voices in Latin American literature, boost translation and the publishing industry.
The Prize is awarded to a work translated into Italian, published in Italy in the two-year period 2023-2024 and written by an author who is a citizen of a Latin American country that is a member of IILA: Argentina, Plurinational State of Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and the Republic Bolivarian from Venezuela.
The works will be evaluated by a high-level jury, made up of experts in Latin American literature, who will award an award to the author of the best work and an award to the best translator of the participating works.
Participation is open to all publishing houses with registered office in Italy that have published, in Italian, a work of fiction (novels or collections of short stories) in the two-year period 2023-2024. A prize of 3,000 euros will be awarded to the author, who will also be offered travel and accommodation in Rome to attend the award ceremony and any further presentations of the winning work. The best translator will also be offered travel and accommodation in Rome to attend the awards ceremony, as well as a prize of 1,500 euros.
