Last concert of the Accademia Filarmonica Romana’s chamber music season at the Teatro Argentina on Thursday, May 15 (9 p.m.) with a concert by the ensemble L’Astr\u00e9e and violinist Francesco D’Orazio , in a program that dialogues with the Baroque repertoire and contemporary music by juxtaposing 18th-century instrumental masterpieces by H\u00e4ndel Corelli and Vivaldi, with a tribute to Luciano Berio in the year in which the centenary of his birth falls, and a world premiere performance, commissioned by the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, of Toshio Hosokawa (1955) among the most representative composers of the contemporary music scene in the Far East. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A formation founded more than 30 years ago at the behest of harpsichordist Giorgio Tabacco, L’Astr\u00e9e is one of the most well-established Italian instrumental ensembles specializing in the repertoire of the seventeenth-eighteenth century performed according to historical criteria and with the use of original instruments. A guest of the main musical institutions in Italy and abroad, invited to the most important festivals and centers of Baroque music, L’Astr\u00e9e also has to its credit a large number of CDs with unpublished recordings of the Baroque instrumental repertoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the Philharmonic’s next concert, the ensemble will offer some Sonatas for two violins and continuo from Georg Friedrich H\u00e4ndel’s Op. 2 published in 1733 (Nos. 1 and 5) and two of the best-known elaborations of the period on the musical theme \u201cMadness,\u201d namely Arcangelo Corelli’s Sonata Op. 5 No. 12 for violin and basso continuo published in 1700 and Antonio Vivaldi’s Sonata a tre for two violins and basso continuo RV 63 , from five years later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
