Industrial decarbonization and competitiveness is a European priority today. Countries need to pursue different technological solutions (electrification, hydrogen, methane emission reduction, CCS) to mitigate emissions in industrial sectors, especially energy-intensive ones. If governments are to succeed in their strategies, a cleaner industrial sector must be followed by the right industrial decarbonization strategy that addresses the social implications of the transformation. A holistic approach is needed to succeed. The new energy and economic scenario also requires coordination of national and international dimensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the opening of the event, the author (Dr. Pier Paolo Raimondi, senior researcher in IAI’s Energy, Climate and Resources Program) will present the main findings of two reports indicated above and research on the topic, carried out as part of a project in collaboration with Environmental Defense Fund Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event will be an opportunity to discuss possible strategies for just industrial decarbonization using Italy as a case study with various experts and stakeholders. The speakers will provide insights on different solutions and priorities, such as methane emissions and hydrogen. The discussion will build on key findings from the last two IAI papers on these issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
