What to do in Rome on the weekend of June 1st and 2nd? Here are some suggestions:
–Republic Day: the 78th Italian Republic Day is also celebrated on Sunday 2 June. As per tradition, the Frecce Tricolore will perform and the highest state officials will be present, starting with President Sergio Mattarella. Military and civilian personnel, armed and non-armed bodies, flags and standards, military bands and fanfares will parade for one of the most anticipated events of the year.
–Weifang Kite Festival: Are you ready for a journey into traditional Chinese culture? No, you don’t have to go to China because the Weifang Kite Festival comes to Rome for you! On Sunday 2 June 2024 from 11am to 7pm, Parco della Caffarella will dedicate a day to Chinese culture with tastings of gastronomic specialties, performances by Huang and much more.
Free entry (at the crossroads between Via Carlo de Bildt and Via Gennaro Mondaini).
–UnArchive Found Footage Fest: Sunday 2 June is the last opportunity to admire the cinematic and artistic horizons of the festival entitled “UnArchive Found Footage Fest” at the Spanish Academy. This festival was conceived and produced by the Audiovisual Archive Foundation of the Workers’ and Democratic Movement (AAMOD), in collaboration with Archivio Luce, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual and other public and private institutions.
–Cinema in Piazza: this weekend the tenth edition of Cinema in Piazza returns to Rome. Kicking off the event on Saturday 1 June will be Ghali who will present “Ta’m-E Gilas” (The Taste of Cherry) by Abbas Kiarostami. On Sunday 2 June, however, Claudio Ranieri and Riccardo Milani will present “In our sky with a roar of thunder” by Riccardo Milani. Find out more about programming by clicking HERE.
–Evening opening of Villa di Massenzio: on Saturday 1 June it will be possible to visit the Villa di Massenzio with the evocative lighting of the new system inaugurated last 20 April. At the entrance, the Mausoleum and the Circus, specialized operators will illustrate the archaeological site in Italian and English from 7pm to 9.30pm.The Villa will be open from 10am to 10pm (last entry 9.30pm). The evening opening will continue every Saturday in the months of June and July.
In addition to Republic Day, Sunday is the first Sunday of June and entry to the museums will be free. Among the structures participating in the Roma Capitale initiative are the Celio Archaeological Park, the Forma urbis Museum, the Sacred Area of Largo Argentina, the archeological area of the Circus Maximus and many others.
