What to do in Rome on the weekend of May 18th and 19th? Here are some suggestions:
–Photographic exhibition “Determined Women”: Friday 17 May started the first exhibition showcasing the photographic works of Cameroonian Angèle Etoundi Essamba at the Museum of Rome in Trastevere, which can be visited until 6 October. The approximately fifty large format photographs made between 1985 and 2022 and divided into five photographic cycles -La Ragazza con l’orecchino d’ambra (The Girl with the Amber Earring), Rinascimento (Renaissance), A-fil -liation (A-fil-liations), Noirs (Blacks), Unveilings (Unveilings) – are a visual story with strong colors that act as a counterpoint to some series of smooth black and white.
Full ticket 12 euros, reduced (also for residents of Rome) 9.50 euros.
–Cuba- Afro Cuban Festival: on Sunday 18 May the Snodo del Mandrione returns to host the Cuba – Afro Cuban Festival. From 12:00 to 21:00 you will be able to immerse yourself in Afro-Cuban culture through an unprecedented sensory journey. From music to the most authentic culinary traditions to live a unique experience that celebrates the vibrant soul of Cuba. And between one taste and another of the typical food you can also participate in shows and open dance lessons with a program full of activities such as the performance of Raisa Hernandez and the dance lessons with the professional dancer Luis Gabriel Manso.
Entrance is reserved for members of the Roma Città cultural association, at a cost of 3 euros.
–Cinema Festival of Latin American Spanish: the 17th edition of La Nueva Ola – Spanish and Latin American Film Festival, directed by Iris Martin-Peralta and Federico Sartori, will be held in Rome from 15 to 19 May, at the Cinema Barberini. Among this year’s previews of La Nueva Ola del cine español: the 16 mm film Samsara by Lois Patiño, awarded at the 2023 Berlinale, a true sensorial journey between death and rebirth that addresses the theme of reincarnation from a Buddhist point of view Tibetan; the independent film La mesita del comedor (The Glass Table) by Caye Casas, an arthouse horror that escapes the clichés of the genre, telling the domestic tragedy of a couple of new parents who, in choosing to buy a coffee table, will take the worst decision of their life.

–Roma Sprint Festival: the athletics sporting event RomaSprint Festival now in its IV edition will take place on Saturday 18th. The theater of the show will once again be the Stadio dei Marmi Pietro Mennea which last year hosted the 2022 edition with extraordinary numbers. The Roma SprintFestival 24 promises to exceed all expectations, marking a new chapter in the history of athletics, thanks to the participation of the Olympic 100 meters champion Marcell Jacobs and other stars of the Italian national and international teams.
–Night of the Organs: on Saturday 18 May at 8.30 pm in the Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus (Chiesta del Santissimo Nome del Gesù) the event called “A night at the sound of the organ” will take place, the concert of well-known two musicians in the international scene, respectively Áron Dóbisz ( organ) and Bence János Samodai (trumpet). The concert is part of a series of concerts created and promoted by FilharmoniaHungary scheduled for Saturday 18 May in 30 countries on four continents, from China to the United States.
Don’t forget that Saturday 18 May is Night of Museums! On the occasion of International Museum Day, the historic event returns to Rome with a rich program of events and exhibitions to visit. With just one euro you can visit around 60 spaces which will remain open exceptionally at night until 2am (last entry at 01:00).
