Tor Vergata University second in Italy for international students
In the top ten for the first time (eighth, last year it was in 14th place), in second place in Italy for international students: this is the unstoppable rise of the University of Rome Tor Vergata as photographed by the QS World University Rankings 2026, the ranking that lines up 1,501 universities in the world by cross-referencing data on teaching quality, research and student prospects. The top Italian university is Politecnico di Milano (98th place), followed by Sapienza di Roma (128th), which is the top generalist university in the national ranking, and Alma Mater di Bologna (138th) is third. Tor Vergata, 355th place and “only” 43 years old, jumps 38 places from last year (it was 393rd), 134 in two years. But above all, it is second for international students (in 2024/2025 the number of enrolled students is 3,874 from 130 countries: plus 74 positions in the special ranking) and eighth in the overall ranking among Italian universities, in the first quarter (23.6 percent) of the international ranking, number 246 in the world for bibliometric citation rate. Numbers that push the university to the top 23.6 percent of universities worldwide.
