On 10th April 2024, the QS Top University published the World University ranking by subject for the year 2024. The University of Rome La Sapienza confirmed its world record in the subject Classics and Ancient History with a score of 99.5, higher than last year, and the national one in two thematic areas: Arts & Humanities and Natural Sciences, respectively in 44th and 61st place in the world.
Among Italian universities, La Sapienza is the university that has recorded the greatest improvement, with an overall increase of 21%. The University is the most represented Italian university in the ranking with 47 subjects (last year there were 43), distributed across all 5 areas, for a total of 52 points acquired.
New for Sapienza in the 2024 ranking is the introduction of the subject Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, in which the University ranks 46th in the world and first at a national level.
Sapienza is positioned among the top 50 universities in the world in 8 subjects and among the top 100 in the world in 25 subjects (last year there were 21). The 8 top 50 disciplines are: Classics and Ancient History; Archeology; Art history; Physics and Astronomy; Library and information management; History; Law; Data science and artificial intelligence.
The subject classification developed by QS takes into consideration the following parameters: academic reputation and reputation among companies based on the opinion of recruiters around the world, citations per paper, the use of the "H-Index" on prolificacy and the impact of publications and the International Research Network.
