Wynnie Mynerva’s “Presagio” solo show at the Memmo Foundation
Fondazione Memmo is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition in Italy of Wynnie Mynerva (Lima, Peru, 1992), curated by Alessio Antoniolli, composed of a new nucleus of works created in Rome as part of the residency that preceded the exhibition. The exhibition will be open to the public from 8 May to 3 November, at the Foundation.
For Mynerva, personal experiences, collective traumas and individual desires are part of a practice that tends towards renewed perspectives of the past and present, so as to reflect a future of hope and openness that responds to our times. From the comparison with the city and its stratified history, Mynerva has created a new cosmology, a universe in which
through painting, systems of thought capable of identifying multiple trajectories come to life.
Starting from her own coexistence with a chronic illness, and guided by the suggestions of esoteric thought and magic – understood as tools to restore people’s faith in their own strength – Mynerva confronted the body to place it outside the simple binary distinction between sick and healthy. With reference to the writer Susan Sontag, who has
defined the body and “its metaphors”, covered in cultural and political symbols, Mynerva decided to give life to a cosmic universe in which the human being – a holobite, according to the definition of Lynn Margulis – is seen as a itinerant ecological entity, connected to everything around it.
