Witnesses of a war. Graphic Memory of the Mexican Revolution

On the occasion of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Italy, the Museo di Roma in Trastevere and the Embassy of Mexico in Italy celebrate the historic occasion with the photographic exhibition ‘Witnesses of a War. Graphic Memory of the Mexican Revolution’.

The exhibition, promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, is organised by theEmbassy of Mexico in Italy. Museum services Zètema Progetto Cultura.

The photographs come from the prestigious Casasola Archive, which covers the fundamental stages of the Mexican Revolution, a period in which figures who have marked Mexican history such as Francisco I. Madero, Emiliano Zapata, Pancho Villa and Venustiano Carranza.

The Casasola Archive is the brainchild of Agustín Víctor Casasola and Miguel Casasola, pioneers in photographic reportage in Latin America. The Government of Mexico acquired the Casasola Archive in 1976, entrusting the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) with its custody, and also in 1976, 484,004 photographs were purchased. The Archive is currently kept at the former Convent of San Francisco, in Pachuca, Mexico.

The black-and-white images bear witness to the main events that marked the first social revolution of the 20th century, which took place between 1910 and 1920.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 6 November 2024 to 9 February 2025.
