The world tested by exile

On 29 and 30 May 2024, Villa Medici organizes a series of international meetings and artistic events around the theme of exile, under the direction of Anne-Claire Defossez and Didier Fassin, as part of the collaboration between the French Academy in Rome and the Collège de France.

The French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici is pleased to host, on 29 and 30 May, an initiative entitled “The world tested by exile“, international meetings dedicated to the analysis of the political violence of the border, as well as it occurs in the Middle East, Africa, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and at the borders or within the European Union itself. Through this analysis, the goal is to understand what this violence reveals about contemporary inequalities in the value of lives and ongoing upheavals in the world’s moral order, as well as the many forms of resistance and solidarity mobilized in response.
