The reality of contemporary Japanese art in Rome
The beginning of cultural exchanges between Italy and Japan within the Geibun Association began in 2008, when Dr. Piergiacomo Petrioli went to Japan for the first time on the occasion of the Social Education Rinascimento exhibition, set up for the 30th anniversary of the International Year of the Child.
In 2009 we organized an art exhibition in Siena, a UNESCO World Heritage city and cradle of the Italian Renaissance, at the Siena Museum in the Palazzo Pubblico (now the seat of the Municipality), followed by two other exhibitions in 2015 and 2019. Dr. Petrioli has also been involved in evaluations of Japanese works of art at the Uffizi in Florence together with his colleague and friend Dr. Daniele Sasson. In 2022, our association organized art sessions and workshops for children, as well as an exhibition at the “Elisabetta Possati” museum hall, in the heart of Bologna.
After over 15 years of artistic exchanges between Italy and Japan, the Italian Association of Japanese Artists was founded this year and, on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony held in Tokyo, Dr. Petrioli has expressed his intention to organize an exhibition of Japanese art in Rome. The exhibition “The reality of contemporary Japanese art in Rome” will be held at the Crocetti Museum in Rome on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of cultural agreements between Italy and Japan. Works by Japanese artists who are members of the Italian Association of Japanese Artists carefully selected by Dr. Petrioli will be presented, on the theme “Colour in life”.
