The Post-election European Union: between uncertainties and future challenges

The recent European elections highlighted a change in the European political landscape. New parties and new visions on Europe have emerged with the risk of hindering some of the European policies set by the previous Commission. The most important economic challenges do not seem to be different, among the most crucial being the ecological transition and the annexation of the Western Balkans, situations that generate doubts and controversy in many of the member states. Then there is the management of the Russian-Ukraine, which will need the intensification of diplomatic efforts also to strengthen the role of the European Union internationally. In this post-European elections, the new parliamentary cycle will have to deal with the possible fragmentation politics that is being created and that could result in a polarization of the process of decision-making on important reforms, such as that of the European Treaties. In addition, the already present euroskeptic views are growing stronger in some EU states, which in order to confront them will have to oppose a policy of greater civil society involvement. Finally, the topic of immigration registers different political thoughts on how to deal with and manage the Migratory flow, regulating in the most efficient way, the reception and distribution of refugees in different EU countries.

They will speak on the topic:

Luca Pierantoni, European Commission Representative
Paolo Guerrieri, Professor, IAI Scientific Advisor and Author
Gianluca Passarelli, Professor of Political Science at Sapienza University of Rome
Luigi Paganetto, Italian Economist. Emeritus Professor of Political Economy
