The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and the restoration of the Portico de la Gloria
On the occasion of the celebrations of the Compostela Holy Year 21-22, the Embassy of Spain in Italy promoted the Xacobeo program in Rome, an initiative that emphasizes the importance of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in building a common European identity. On 23 and 24 June the Academy will host the conference “The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and the restoration of the Portico de la Gloria“.
The conference is aimed at art history experts and conservation professionals, as well as the general Italian public. With the scientific curatorship of Ana Laborde Marqueze, restorer of the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain and coordinator of the Portico Project between 2011 and 2018, the goal is to present the interventions carried out under the aforementioned Santiago Cathedral Program. The Director-General of the Historical Heritage of the Xunta de Galicia and the Director of the Foundation of the Cathedral of Santiago will present the management model for the restoration of the temple of Compostela which, over time, has strengthened strategic alliances with public and private institutions with the goal of achieving the complete restoration of the cathedral.
