SummerMela
The twelfth edition of SummerMela, the festival dedicated to the dissemination of Indian cultures and traditions, will open on 21 June, on the occasion of the International Yoga Day, with a special event, promoted by the FAD Foundation in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Italy, within one of the most iconic scenic settings of Rome, Castel Sant’Angelo. In fact, at 6.00 pm, an open yoga session led by Riccardo Serventi Longhi, renowned teacher of the Italian Yoga Federation, will begin for an hour and a half.
After Yoga, SummerMela is part of another International Festival, that of music, proposing at 8.00 pm on the same stage of Castel Sant’Angelo a concert of classical music Dhrupad, the oldest genre of classical Indian music in the North, today considered the foundation of Hindustani vocal and instrumental music. Dhrupad has its origins in the Vedic chants of the Sama Veda and shares a deep connection with the tradition of nada yoga (yoga of sound). It has evolved over the centuries as a musical genre, absorbing into its repertoire the devotional songs of the temples and the compositions developed in the court environments during the period of Mughal domination.
The Festival will then continue until June 30th.
