SPINACETO PAST & FUTURE
The Royal Court Theater is one of the largest centers for contemporary theater in the world. In the many decades of his activity, he has launched authors such as John Osborne, Joe Orton, and Sarah Kane and has given voice to international playwrights who work in complex contexts, such as Rasim Erdem Avsar, a young Turkish writer and scholar who, with his colleague Asli Ekici, is protagonist of the evening of November 22nd as part of the Spinaceto Past & Future project, curated by the Teatro Stabile delle Arti Medioevali-Società Cooperativa.
The works of Avsar and Elici are entrusted to 3 young emerging Roman directors, particularly active in the area of Municipality IX of Rome Capital.
As part of the same project, “The Magic of the Egg” by Gian Maria Cervo, one of the most internationally represented Italian playwrights, arrives in Rome on November 25th at 9.00 pm at the Teatro della XII, which proposes a monologue whose protagonist is a condition or, if you want, a polyphonic being. Ei, that’s the name of the unique character of the work, played by Luca Iervolino, a bit Harlequin and a bit Pulcinella, embodies a polyphony that represents the centuries-old condition of the rascal and comedian of art and brings to the stage the sulphurous and mysterious people of comedy, of the very concept of comedy, taking on the voices of figures ranging from Berni to Di Giacomo and Petito, up to personal inserts by Cervo himself. The text is brought to the stage by Flavio Albanese, the protagonist of one of the most compelling moments of the Spinaceto theater laboratory in the nineties and today’s artistic director, with Marinella Anaclerio, of the Compagnia del Sole of Bari.
The shows of the Spinaceto Past & Future project all take place at the Teatro della XII which can be reached via urban transport lines 705 and 714 and can be reached by car from the center of Rome in approximately 19 minutes.
