Spanish and Latin American Film Festival
The 17th edition of La Nueva Ola – Spanish and Latin American Film Festival, directed by Iris Martin-Peralta and Federico Sartori, will be held in Rome from 15 to 19 May, at the Cinema Barberini.
The Festival, which over the years has become a true point of reference for Ibero-American cinema, includes: the two main sections Nueva Ola del cine español and Nueva Ola Latinoamericano, dedicated to the best new releases of Spanish and overseas cinema unreleased in Italy, in competition for the Audience Award; the non-competitive Perlas section, dedicated to the best films of the season; the Clásicos section, which every year pays homage to the great cinema of the past; the IILA-Cinema Award, dedicated to young talents of Central and South American cinema.
Among this year’s premieres of La Nueva Ola del cine español: the 16 mm film Samsara by Lois Patiño, awarded at the 2023 Berlinale, a true sensorial journey between death and rebirth that addresses the theme of reincarnation from a Buddhist point of view Tibetan; the independent film La mesita del comedor (The Glass Table) by Caye Casas, an arthouse horror that escapes the clichés of the genre, telling the domestic tragedy of a couple of new parents who, in choosing to buy a coffee table, will make the worst decision of their life their life.
After the preview at the festival, the films will be released in theaters distributed by EXIT Media.
