NICOLA SANSONE – Photography as freedom
The Museo di Roma in Trastevere presents the retrospective NICOLA SANSONE – Photography as Freedom, hosted in the Pianoforte rooms from 19 February to 6 May 2025.
Nicola Sansone (1921-1984), a Neapolitan, began working as a photojournalist in 1949, founding the Realfoto agency in 1957 with his younger brother Antonio and with Calogero Cascio, Caio Garrubba, Franco Pinna and others. Of post-war Italy, Sansone documented the social and cultural aspects of the country, the permanence of tradition and the transformations: thus the countryside and the suburbs, the suburbs, the new places of aggregation.
The exhibition, promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, and organised by Ma.Co.f – Centro della Fotografia Italiana di Brescia, is curated by Renato Corsini and Margherita Magnino. Museum services by Zètema Progetto Cultura.
The exhibition consists of photographs taken from the 1950s to the end of the 1960s, in America, Japan and of course Italy, for a total of approximately sixty black and white images
