Meeting and reading of the works of Emine Sevgi Özdamar. Dialogue with Prof. Sandra Paoli

Emine Sevgi Özdamar is one of the most significant authors, who opened new horizons, themes and gave a highly poetic sound to the German language and literature. Having arrived from Turkey in Berlin divided by the Wall, Özdamar has been enriching the literary scene of the German language for over three decades with her novels, short stories and plays, including the work Ein von Schatten begrenzter Raum (Suhrkamp Verlag 2021), which she will read at Goethe’s house.

The unusual literary stylistic devices and Turkish-inspired ways of speaking characterize his multi-perspective texts, which present a broad panorama between intimate personal experiences and Turkish-German history, from the First World War to the spirit of optimism of the 60s and 70s up to to the present day. Emine Sevgi Özdamar’s work opens an intellectual and poetic dialogue between different languages, cultures and worldviews.

Professor Sandra Paoli has focused her research on the comparative study of diaspora literature and cinema. On these themes he has published, among other things, L’Ovest transculturale al feminine (Mimesis, 2018); he also collaborated with various newspapers. For ytali he is responsible for the Uncertain Gaze section and edited the volume German Kaleidoscope. He currently teaches at the University of Udine and the University of Roma Tre.

The evening will take place in German with simultaneous translation into Italian.
