LITERATURES – Rome International Festival
The Palatine Stadium, inside the Colosseum Archaeological Park, will once again be the extraordinary setting for LETTERATURE the International Festival of Rome, with a format of five evenings: 3, 5, 9, 11 and 13 July.
The chosen title is The memory of the world, in homage to the work of Italo Calvino whose centenary of birth occurs this year. The memory of the world, a contemporary narrative on the origin of the universe, launches us into a multiplicity of visions and futures and poses a reflection on the transmission of knowledge and the narrative of literature. The twenty-second edition of the Festival benefits from the patronage of the National Committee for the celebrations of the centenary of the birth of Italo Calvino and of the Calvino Laboratory.
This year the story of the Festival also passes through an image that bears the signature of the illustrator Laura Riccioli. A young woman dressed in a colorful dress takes momentum from the ruins of the Palatine Hill, almost touching the moon, with the lightness and aspiration to the future present in the writer’s idea of the world.
The program is curated by Simona Cives, head of the Casa delle Letterature, with the contribution of a scientific committee made up of prominent protagonists of the literary scene, such as Paolo Di Paolo, Melania Mazzucco, Davide Orecchio, Igiaba Scego and Nadia Terranova. The direction and artistic interventions are by Fabrizio Arcuri.
The format of the evenings includes readings of unpublished literary texts in which authors on the international scene will explain the theme in a suggestive mix of words, images and sounds. This year the program will be accompanied by contemporary circus artists and acrobats who will tell the word of Calvino projecting us into his impossible imaginaries.
Also this year the Festival will be preceded by a preview at the Casa delle Letterature with five appointments with international guests.
Admission to all appointments will be free, subject to availability.
