Franco Fontana. Retrospective
A feast of geometric lines and an explosion of colors will celebrate Franco Fontana’s entire career. An extraordinary journey through the unique eye of one of the greatest Italian photographers of the 20th century, who revolutionized the language of color photography, in the exhibition Franco Fontana. Retrospective, curated by Jean-Luc Monterosso and scheduled from 13 December 2024 to 31 August 2025 at the Ara Pacis Museum.
World-renowned curator, art critic, historic founder and director of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, Monterosso guides us to discover the creative universe of the Modenese photographer, revealing to the public new aspects of his work and his profound influence on contemporary photography.
The visitor will discover infinite optical possibilities: between bold shots, reduced depth of field and overhead shots, he will be able to admire abstract and minimalist images characterized by a juxtaposition of bright colors and strong contrasts, elements that have made Fontana a precursor in a white photographic world and black. The exhibition thus becomes an unmissable opportunity to discover the artistic evolution of the master and his ability to transform reality into pure poetry
The exhibition is promoted by Roma Capitale, Department of Culture, Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage with the organization of Civita Mostre e Musei, Zètema Progetto Cultura and Franco Fontana Studio.
