Exhibition “Theatre: authors, actors and audiences in Ancient Rome”

The vital force of theatrical performances, their popularity, the difficult lives of actors and other great protagonists of the theatrical world in ancient Rome will be told in the exhibition "Theatre: Authors, actors and audiences in Ancient Rome", scheduled from 21 May to 3 November at the Ara Pacis Museum.

The visitor will be taken 'beyond' the scene, into the production mechanisms, into the 'actors' dressing rooms', onto the stages and stands of ancient theatres: a living reconstruction, in which the protagonists themselves - through multimedia interventions created specifically for this purpose - will involve the public by telling their lives, the stories they interpreted, their role as authors or performers in a society so similar and yet so different from ours.

The exhibition is promoted by Roma Capitale, Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage with the organization of Zètema Progetto Cultura. Exhibition curated by Orietta Rossini and Lucia Spagnuolo.
