Concert in the Basilica
In the splendid setting of the Church of Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli (Piazza di Campitelli, 9, Rome), the traditional Concert in the Basilica will be held, organized by Destination Events in collaboration with Youth Music of the World. The event, with free admission while places last, is set for 5pm and will offer an extraordinary musical experience, thanks to the performance of the prestigious Parkview Wind Ensemble, directed by maestro Carlos Franco.
The repertoire chosen for this special Christmas evening will lead the audience on an emotional journey through winter sounds and the great musical tradition, with songs ranging from the delicate harmonies of Snowscape by Randall Standridge to the majesty of What God Ordains Is Always Good and O My Soul, Be Glad And Joyful by J.S. Bach. There will be intimate and reflective moments with Winter Milky Way by Yukiko Nishimura and the infectious energy of You Better Sleigh by JaRod Hall, as well as evocative performances by chamber groups that will enrich the evening with the warmth of festive music.
The Parkview Wind Ensemble, renowned for its artistic excellence, represents a model of music education of the highest caliber. With a mission that goes beyond the arts, Parkview High School’s music program aims to transform students’ lives through music, developing character, identity and leadership. The lineup has performed at prestigious events such as the 2023 National Concert Festival, presented by YAMAHA, and the 2024 GMEA In-Service Conference in Athens, Georgia.
The ensemble will be directed by Carlos Franco, originally from Caracas, Venezuela. Trained in the famous National System of Youth Orchestras of Venezuela, Franco continued his journey in the United States, earning a degree in Music Education at the University of Florida. With a career dedicated to musical training and orchestral conducting, Franco brings to the podium an artistic vision that blends tradition and innovation, capable of involving and exciting every listener.
