The first edition of the winter film festival CinemAUSTRIA kicks off. An exciting journey through the cinema of the past and present (with an eye also to the future), in the cosy library of the Austrian Cultural Forum Rome.

It will begin on Tuesday, 19 November, when ANGESCHWEMMT, the second documentary by the acclaimed director Nikolaus Geyrhalter, will be screened at 7 p.m. The film offers a special glimpse into many worlds that are, unfortunately, destined to vanish, through the many stories of as many people living or working on the banks of the Danube. The film will be preceded by a screening of the short film SUBTOPIC by Nikki Schuster – in collaboration with the Tricky Women/Tricky Realities Film Festival. Through an enthralling and hypnotic journey under the sea surface, one can enjoy an immersive experience where reality and utopia meet.

The event will continue on Wednesday 11 December, also at 7pm, when the brilliant comedy DIE MIGRANTIGEN, directed by Arman T. Riahi, will be screened. Through the vicissitudes of two unemployed boys, who, in order to be chosen as the protagonists of a documentary, pretend to be immigrant petty criminals, we will also be offered important food for thought.

The third CinemAUSTRIA event will take place on Tuesday 21 January, also at 7pm, with the screening of SPARSCHWEIN, a funny mockumentary directed and starring Christoph Schwarz, which will show us how to survive a year without money, while also protecting the environment. How important is it to believe in your dreams, without ever forgetting that you were a child? Young Annika does not have an easy life. yet, paradoxically, it would take ‘just’ a mermaid tail to make her life better. She, then, is the magnetic protagonist of MERMAIDS DON’T CRY, directed by Franziska Pflaum and scheduled for Tuesday 25 February at 7 pm.

Finally, our winter review will conclude on Tuesday 11 March at 7 pm with the screening of FAVORITEN, the latest documentary by the great Ruth Beckermann, which will show us life inside a multi-ethnic primary school in Vienna’s Favoriten district.
