140 Years of FabergĂ© – The Eggs that Enchanted the Tsars.
In 1885, Emperor Aleksandr III gave his wife Maria Fedorovna an extraordinary Easter gift: an egg with a precious surprise inside. The creator was the German-born Russian jeweler Carl Fabergé, who from that time on received the status of supplier to the imperial court. He collaborated with the imperial family for 31 years, in which time he created more than 50 Easter eggs. Now these objects of high jewelry are kept in state museums and private collections, not only in Russia, but also in the United States, Britain, Switzerland, and Monaco.
A lecture “140 Years of FabergĂ©. The Eggs that Enchanted the Tsars” by researcher Sherif El Sibaie will be held on 28 may at 6:30 pm. A journey through art, luxury and history, discovering objects that have survived time and continue to enchant collectors, scholars and enthusiasts around the world.
Sherif El Sebaie is an expert popularizer in Cultural Diplomacy and Euro-Mediterranean and Transatlantic Relations. For years he has been engaged in research that interweaves European decorative art and Eastern suggestions, exploring the dialogue between European aesthetics and exotic motifs.
