Embassy of Canada, Rome – June 2025 – In a changing global context, where security, sustainability and inclusion need innovative approaches, international collaborations and concrete solutions, the Embassy of Canada in Italy is pleased to announce the thirteenth edition of the Canada-Italy Prize for Innovation.
This year’s Prize focuses on four priority themes:
Energy Security
Artificial Intelligence and Sport
Space technology
Migration management
These priorities reflect the most pressing challenges and opportunities of our time. In the run-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina February-March 2026 and the FIFA in Canada in June 2026, the focus is on the use of Artificial Intelligence in sport to improve performance, inclusion and safety. Increasing geopolitical instability makes the issue of energy security crucial, while space exploration opens new frontiers for science and international cooperation. Finally, migration management remains a global priority, requiring effective, humane and sustainable modes of intervention.
The initiative is aimed at Italian experts, researchers, scientists, start-ups, creative industry professionals and innovators interested in developing and deepening their research with Canadian colleagues and counterparts.
The Prize consists of the reimbursement of travel expenses to Canada, up to a maximum of €4,000, to meet the Canadian partner and jointly develop the project.
Over the years, the Prize has undoubtedly contributed to the strengthening of relations between Canada and Italy, fostering the establishment of lasting collaborations and contributing to the development of research and innovation projects of international significance.
In addition, since last year Canada has been included in the Horizon Europe programme as an ‘associated country’ for Pillar II projects; the Prize therefore represents a concrete opportunity to initiate synergies and build strategic partnerships between the two sides of the Atlantic.
The deadline for submitting applications for the Prize is 29 June 2025. All information and the call for entries can be found at this link:
