From 28 May to 24 August, the Macro will host the third edition of the Festival of the Academies and Institutes of Foreign Culture in Rome, organised by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo with the collaboration of the Academies and Institutes of Foreign Culture in Rome and the curatorship of Saverio Verini.
The initiative celebrates Rome’s bond with the Academies and Institutes of Foreign Culture, emphasising the inexhaustible source of inspiration that the City constitutes for the scholars, renewing the legacy of the Grand Tour that for centuries has seen the Capital as the fundamental place for the completion of the cultural and personal education of generations of foreign intellectuals.
In Sublime cliché, the title chosen for this edition, the city will be present and perceptible in all the selected works, without avoiding the comparison with antiquity or the magnificence of the places, but trying to propose a dreamlike and unexpected vision, in which even the cliché can be sublimated.
Ranging from installation to photography, from video to sculpture, to the use of traditional techniques and materials such as mosaic and travertine, the works in the exhibition offer an oblique view of Rome and its suggestions, presenting a fragmentary and anti-rhetorical portrait of the city.
