Weifang Kite Festival
The Weifang Kite Festival originated in the period of springs and autumns in China and has a history of more than 2,400 years. It is known as the “Kite Capital of the World.” Kites (formerly known as “paper kites”) are not only a popular entertainment tool, but also have various cultural connotations, such as praying for blessings, military communications and scientific exploration. In 2023, the Weifang International Kite Festival was included by UNESCO in the “Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity,” becoming an important symbol of global cultural exchange. Rome, the western terminus of the ancient Silk Road, has always been closely linked with Eastern civilization.
The introduction of the Weifang Kite Festival in Rome’s Aqueduct Park is not only a continuation of the cultural resonance of the “Belt and Road Initiative,” but also a tribute to the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy (2025) and a resumption of dialogue between civilizations in Asia and Europe using kites as a medium.

Wind rises from the East and the zither resounds around the world –Let kites connect Eastern and Western civilizations The Third Weifang International Kite Festival in Rome “Wind Rising from the East, Kite Singing Around the World,” organized by the Fenghua National Music International Art Troupe (Silk Melodies) and the Shanghai Italian Chamber of Commerce will be held in grand style in Rome’s Aqueduct Park from May 17-18, 2025!
As a leading cultural event that has been successfully held for two consecutive years, the scope of this Kite Festival has been further enhanced. It not only brings together a wide range of kite performances and competitions, but also incorporates various contents of cultural experiences such as Chinese martial arts, qi gong, Chinese gymnastics, dragon and lion dance parades, change of face in Sichuan opera, Peking opera, kite building, etc. The scope will be gradually expanded to truly create an international event that integrates traditional skills, artistic exchanges and springtime joy!
