The right move? Populist parties of the radical right and Europe.
While before gaining power radical right-wing populist parties (PRRs) are often openly opposed to the European Union (EU) and its policies, once in government their position can change significantly. Their threats to leave the EU are often replaced by calls for greater EU involvement, particularly in economic and migration issues. A recent special issue of The International Spectator (TIS), on which this event is based, analyzes the discourse and policies of the PRR parties in relation to Europe, before and after they gained power.
Participate in the webinar based on the special issue of TIS “Right Move? Populist Radical Right Parties and Europe” . Editors Leo Goretti and Daniela Huber and the special issue’s guest editors Matilde Rosina, Marianna Griffini and Leila Simona Talani, along with IAI Associate Scholar Gabriele Abbondanza, will address the performance of populist radical right parties in the political dynamics of the EU, focusing in particular on key foreign policy positions.
