Defending democracy with democracy

On 27 February at 4:30 p.m., the David Sassoli Room, Palazzo Valentini, Rome, will host the meeting ‘Defending Democracy with Democracy’, a topic of great and urgent topical interest.

The meeting will open with a lecture by Fernando Carrillo Flórez, Vice President of the PRISA publishing group, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Colombia, and author of the book Sin miedo. Defender la democracia desde la democracia.

At a historical moment characterised by increasing threats to democracy – amidst authoritarian drifts, social inequalities and a growing distrust of institutions – Carrillo offers a lucid and passionate reflection on the need to renew and strengthen democratic values. In his recent book, he stresses how democracy can face its most complex challenges without renouncing the fundamental principles that define it, but building reforms that enhance its achievements.
