SUMMARY:Event | The siege of Leningrad between music and poetry
DESCRIPTION:\nOn January 27, 1944, the city of Leningrad was completely liberated from the deadliest siege in the history of humanity. For almost three years the city, besieged by German and Allied troops, desperately tried to survive. According to various estimates, up to 1.5 million residents died from cold, hunger, artillery attacks and air raids.\n\n\n\nParticipate, in memory of the fallen, on January 27th at 6.30 pm at the Russian House in Rome in the literary and musical salon “Siege of Leningrad through music and poems”. The work of composers and poets in the besieged city is a very important part of the tragic chronicle. Songs, plays, marches, poems, prose, written with frozen hands, sounded in halls, on the radio, in military units and recruiting centers. Songs and instrumental pieces, poems and fragments of the personal diaries of the survivors of the siege will be performed and read by the soprano Maria Smirnova, the pianist Olga Betti, the actor Pavel Zelinsky and the St. Petersburg families whose families still retain the memory of the chilling days of the ‘siege.\n\n\n\nGuests of the Russian House in Rome will be able to see the exhibition “Siege Bread”, based on archive materials from the State Memorial Museum of Defense and the Siege of Leningrad. The exhibition tells the story of one of the most tragic pages of the city and the courage of its inhabitants in the face of hunger, one of the most terrible methods of war.\n\n\n\nThe evening was organized in collaboration with the Permanent Representation of the Russian Federation at the FAO and other international bodies in Rome.\n\n\n\nReservation required by clicking HERE ( https://forms.gle/LC1ZxovN68mMzpsJ8 )\n\n\n\n\n
